Inner Map: River of Feeling
You are here.
Coordinates: S 08° / W 13°
Overview
The River of Feeling is where emotion begins to move.
This is the moment in practice when feelings become more noticeable. A sadness may rise. Irritation may appear. Relief, tenderness, anxiety, or grief may pass through without warning.
The landscape here is a river flowing between smooth stones. The water changes shape as it moves, but it does not lose its direction. Feelings are the same way. They shift, gather, soften, and continue.
Navigation Guide
Traveling through this region is about allowing.
You do not need to explain every feeling. You do not need to fix it before it has been felt. Let the emotion move through the body the way water moves through a riverbed.
Notice where the feeling lives. Chest. Throat. Belly. Face. Hands.
Let it be sensation first.
The practice is to feel without gripping.
Obstacles
Holding Back: The instinct to stop a feeling before it fully appears. Let the river move.
Over-Identifying: The belief that a feeling is the whole truth of who you are. Remember: emotions pass through you. They are not all of you.
Trying to Solve: Some feelings do not need an answer. They need space, breath, and time.
Landmarks of Progress
You can name a feeling without becoming consumed by it.
You notice the body sensations beneath the emotion.
You allow a feeling to shift on its own.
These are signs you are learning the river.
Traveler’s Note
Feelings move when they are allowed to move. You do not need to dam the river to be safe beside it.
